Contour feeds the modulated early reflections back into the decay, so the reverb takes on their pitched character as it rings. Pair that with Spacing, the tank modulation and XCouple to shape how the tail develops across the stereo field.

Contour
Choose how far the plate strays.
At zero, Contour keeps the modulated early reflections out of the feedback loop for a clean plate sound. Raise it and those reflections become part of the decay, adding a more obvious pitched character at stronger settings.
You can keep that treatment behind the music or push into metallic tails that become a part of the arrangement. The control changes the reverb’s behavior, rather than simply making the same tail louder.

Spacing & XCouple
Shape the reflections and where they spread.
Spacing changes the modulation of the early-reflection taps. With Contour above zero, it alters how that pattern develops inside the reverb, giving you a second way to work on its pitched character.
XCouple adjusts the width of the reverb output using mid/side processing. Keep the tail more focused or spread it out without using that control to widen the original dry signal.

Timing & decay
Give the performance room before the tail arrives.
Delay sets the time before the reverb begins, while Decay determines how long it rings. Keep a clear opening to each phrase, then let the tail carry on behind it, or shorten both for a tighter reverb around the performance.
Reverb tone & modulation
Let the tail change without clouding your mix.
HF and LF Damping control how high and low frequencies decay in the feedback path. The separate HF and LF Cut controls filter the wet output, so you can remove low-end buildup or soften the top without applying those cuts to the dry signal.
Use Mod Rate and Mod Depth to adjust the tank’s modulation, then choose the Size that suits the effect. You can work on the tail’s timing and tone separately instead of settling for one broad reverb adjustment.

Can PlasmaVerb work as a clean plate?
Yes. With Contour at zero, the early reflections stay out of the feedback loop for a clean plate sound.
Why does Spacing do nothing with Contour at zero?
Spacing modulates the early-reflection pattern. Raise Contour above zero to bring that pattern into the decay and hear Spacing’s effect.
Does XCouple widen the dry signal?
No. XCouple applies mid/side width processing to the reverb output after the tank and early-reflection processing.
What is the difference between damping and cuts?
Damping changes the frequency loss within the feedback path. The cut controls filter the wet output and leave the dry audio unaffected.
Is Delay another echo effect?
Delay is the pre-delay before the reverb starts. Decay controls how long the reverb tail rings.
